  • January 27, 2006 (Fri. 4:30 pm, Carlson C-22): First Society of Physics Students meeting of Spring 2005-06! Society business at 4:30 pm, and at 5 pm Matt Kelly and Tim Lindstrom will share about their REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) experiences from last summer.   • February 23, 2006 (Thu. 4:30 pm): Society of Physics Students Dinner. We'll be going to Chinatown to enjoy a hot pot dinner with Chinatown resident and NPU Professor Johnny Lin.   • March 2, 2006 (Thu. 3-4 pm): "Towards Stochastic Deep Convective Parameterization," by Prof. Johnny Lin, Carlson 33. This is a meeting of the Climate Research Group at North Park.

  • February 3-4, 2006: "Who's Your Daddy? Examining Scientific Evidence for Human Origins," by Dr. Fazale Rana of Reasons to Believe. Held at Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington, Ill.
  • February 8, 2006 (Wed. 7:30 pm): "Graduate School and Careers in the Physical Sciences," by Dr. Curtis Harkrider, an optical engineer at Northrop Grumman. Dr. Harkrider will discuss career options using examples from his own experiences in optics. Held at Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., in Breyer 8.
  • March 5, 2006 (Sun. 7:00 pm): "Breakthrough Thinking: Challenging What We Know," by Dr. Brian Greene, professor of physics and mathematics at Columbia University, superstring theorist, and author of The Elegant Universe. Held at Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel, Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Ill.
  • March 16, 2006 (Thu. 10:00 am-2:30 pm): Spring Diversity/Engineering Career Day at the University of Illinois Chicago. Held in the Illinois Room of the Student Center East (SCE) at 750 South Halsted. Admission is $10.00 for non-UIC students. There is no pre-registration. Business dress and bring resumes.
  • March 17, 2006 (Fri. 10:00 am-3:00 pm): Job and Internship Fair at Loyola University Chicago. Held at the Gentile Center on the Lake Shore Campus, 6525 N. Sheridan Road. Admission is $10.00 for non-Loyola students. There is no pre-registration. Business dress and bring resumes.
  • April 1, 2006 (Sat. 8:30 am-3:00 pm): "Using Physics Education Research to Guide Instruction," The Spring 2006 Meeting of the Chicago Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers. Held at Chicago State University, Chicago, Ill.
  • April 3-4, 2006: "Promises and Perils of Stem Cell Research," Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill. Seminars are free.
  • April 6, 2006 (Thu. 7:30 pm): "The Humanity of Einstein," by Pan Papacosta from Columbia College. Held at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., in Academic Building Rm. 133. Please park in lots C or D and enter through Building 11.
  • May 4, 2006 (Thu. 3 pm): Leadership Forum, with Dr. Leon Lederman, Nobel Laureate in Physics. Held at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, Ill.

National

  • June 22-25, 2006: "The Two Tasks: Redeeming the Soul, Redeeming the Mind," Christian Leadership Ministries' National Faculty Leadership Conference. Held in the Washington, D.C. area. This conference for faculty and graduate students honors the centenary of the birth of Dr. Charles Malik (1906-1987). Presenters include Habib Malik, Peter Kreeft, Walter Bradley and two-time Dove Award winner Fernando Ortega.
  • July 7-16, 2006: "Love Among the Ruins: On the Renewal of Character and Culture," C.S. Lewis Summer Institute. Held at Williams College, Williamstown, MA. Faculty and speakers include Tom Howard, Joseph Pearce, Armand Nicholi, Jim Como, and many others.
  • July 20-22, 2006: "Scholars Coming to Faith," commemorating the 75th anniversary of C. S. Lewis's conversion, 2006 International Institute for Christian Studies conference, Airport Hilton, Kansas City, MO. Speakers include: Charles Colson, Phillip Johnson, Arthur Lindsley, Mary Poplin, and Gordon Smith.
  • July 28-31, 2006: "Embedding Christian Values in Science and Technology," 61st Annual Meeting of the American Scientific Affiliation, Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI. (Prof. Johnny Lin attended.)
